So, CBS put mixed martial arts on prime time tonight. I enjoy the sport, but tonight was total bullshit. Kimbo Slice went down to Seth Petrocelli in less than 30 seconds. A technical knockout. What is a technical knockout in this sport? Boxing errs on the side of safety. We can watch a boxing match if we want a TKO in 30 seconds. Kimbo Slice, a brief time after the bout, was speaking articulately to promote a commercial venture. No way should anybody who has just been knocked out be able to stand up and say “Come to the afterparty at such-and-such, it will be awesome”.

If this were a real combat situation- and if MMA competitions are seperated from real combat, they have no point as a spectacle, that is why they exist, and challenge boxing for an audience- there shouldnt be this sort of TKO.

If we are watching MMA, we are quite willing to see people die. LET THERE BE DEATHSPORT. That is the only fuel for MMA as entertainment. No one wants to see Kimbo Slice take a knee and come back next month to take our money. If he doesnt want to fight, he shouldnt step into the ring. In the post-fight interviews, Seth Petrocelli was clearly intimidated by a fully-unknocked out Kimbo Slice standing next to him. DONT STOP THE FUCKING FIGHT. Let us watch boxing if we want to see TKO’s. Let us see who can whip whom, in a genuine fight.
